Some other smartphones might be announced as well

Microsoft has already confirmed its presence at IFA 2015 trade fair, which is set to kick off in early September. The Redmond-based company also announced one of its most important press conferences will be held on September 4.

In a keynote titled “Windows 10 Lights up New Devices,” Nick Parker, corporate vice president, OEM Division, Microsoft, will demonstrate a breadth of new Windows 10 devices, including tablets, 2-in-1s, premium notebooks, gaming devices and all-in-ones that will light up the Windows 10 experience for customers.

As you might have noticed, the word “smartphone” has been intentionally skipped by Microsoft since the company won't be showing any new handsets at IFA 2015.

But that doesn't mean Microsoft will delay an announcement too much since the latest rumors claim the company may launch new Lumia smartphones in late September.

Five new smartphones to be announced in late September

According to Mobileburn, Microsoft is likely to hold its own event in the United States on September 24, where the new flagship smartphones Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL will be announced.

They will not be available for purchase right away since the latest hearsay points to a November release on the market for both Lumia flagship smartphones.

Along with Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, Microsoft might announce a few other Window 10 smartphones that will probably be available for purchase by the end of the year.

The cited source mentions that Microsoft will announce no less than 5 new Lumia smartphones, including the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL, which means the other three will be low- to mid-range handsets.

Since Microsoft has yet to confirm it will hold a press conference on September 24, there's no way to tell how accurate the new rumor is, but we expect more info on the matter to emerge in the coming weeks.
