14 DAY TRIAL // The last couple of months brought us a plethora of reports related to new Lumia phones that Microsoft might be working on, and now there’s a fresh one claiming that the Lumia 650 could indeed debut on February 1 without much fanfare. But what’s more interesting is that this is touted to be the last Lumia.
Microsoft previously said that it wanted to focus on three different phone categories, namely value, mid-range, and flagships, with two models to be part of each of these. As a result, everyone expected to see several new phones going live in the coming months, but WindowsCentral writes, citing sources close to the matter, that the upcoming Lumia 650 could be “the last Lumia” released by Microsoft.
Details are very scarce right now, but it appears that Microsoft’s plan is to release this Lumia phone on February 1 and then concentrate on truly flagship devices, with the Surface Phone said to be a priority.
The Surface Phone, which could be Microsoft’s premium device launching in the fall of 2016, might come with really breaking features, including support for Win32 apps to make Continuum significantly more advanced than it currently is.
Lumia 650 specifications
As for the Lumia 650, it won’t come with any premium features, so Microsoft plans to launch it with just an announcement on its blog and no press conference.
The device will feature a 5-inch 720p display, the aforementioned source writes, with a Snapdragon 210/212 processor and 1GB of RAM. The phone will come with 8GB of internal storage, but will also boast microSD card support.
There will be two cameras, one on the back with 8 megapixels and LED flash and another one of the front for video calls and selfies with 5 megapixels.
It’ll obviously run Windows 10 Mobile and will feature the traditional look of a Lumia. No pricing information is available at the moment.
