Refreshed hardware planned for the cheapest version

Microsoft could release a hardware upgrade for the entry-level Surface Book 2, as the company wants this particular configuration to provide better value for the money.

As a result, instead of an Intel Core i5-7300U processor, the most affordable Surface Book 2 could soon be offered with an upgraded Intel Core i5-8350U chip that would significantly improve overall performance. Specs show the multi-core performance could be improved by as much as 50 percent over the previous CPU.

While Microsoft has remained completely tight-lipped on everything related to this potential upgrade, WinFuture notes that some retailers are projected to begin selling the refreshed model in the coming weeks.

Discounts in the US for all Surface Book 2 configurations

All the other specs remain unchanged on the Surface Book 2, and the base configuration will still come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. The device features a 13.5-inch display and a wide array of connectivity options, including USB-C and microSD cards.

According to the cited source, this new model is expected to be available for 1569 Euros in Germany, while in the United States, it could hit the shelves with a $1499 price tag. The previous model with the old chip was sold for 1599 Euros.

In Microsoft’s home market, the entry-level version of the Surface Book 2 is available with the old Intel Core i5 chip and 8GB RAM. There’s a more affordable 128GB of storage version that is sold for $1,149, while the more expensive 256GB configuration is typically sold for $1,499, but currently available for just $1,299 thanks to a limited-time promo.

The top-of-the-range Surface Book 2, which features a 15-inch display, an Intel Core i7 processor, 1TB of storage and 16GB of RAM, can be yours in the United States for “just” $3,099, again thanks to a discount from the original price of $3,299.
