Microsoft will announce a series of hardware upgrades at the Surface event on October 2, and by the looks of things, a refresh of the Surface Laptop is very likely.

However, we shouldn’t expect improvements only the under the hood, and a report from German site WinFuture indicates that Microsoft also plans to take the wraps off a bigger Surface Laptop.

If this report is accurate, then we might get to see 15-inch Surface Laptop going live at the show, possibly even powered by an AMD chip, as rumored previously.

A larger Surface Laptop 3 with a 3:2 aspect ratio would help Microsoft expand its lineup in this size, as the Surface Book is currently the only model that comes with a 15-inch version.

Surface Laptop, which is Microsoft’s more conventional device because it doesn’t come with a detachable display but still supports touch input, is also likely to be upgraded to the latest Intel chips, just like the other Surface models on the market.

While the Surface Laptop 3 is likely to receive plenty of stage time given these major upgrades, we also expect the software giant to introduce a new Surface Pro model, also with refreshed hardware under the hood.

Specifics regarding the other improvements coming to the Surface Pro 7 aren’t yet available, but it’s believed minor refinements would be given to the device itself, as Microsoft focused specifically on the hardware and the keyboard.

Other upgrades for the Surface lineup are also expected, including a new processor option for the Surface Go. At this point, the Surface Go is the smallest and most affordable Surface model on the market, and with this hardware upgrade, Microsoft plans to make it a more powerful alternative to its more expensive and premium siblings.
