Not-so-surprising feature spotted in Xbox app on mobile

Microsoft is testing a new feature that would bring Xbox One game streaming to Windows 10 Mobile with help from the Xbox app currently available on mobile devices too.

Reddit user eric5949 has discovered a new feature in the Xbox Beta app on Windows 10 Mobile that basically enables game streaming from an Xbox One to a smartphone running the latest version of the operating system.

Of course, the feature doesn’t seem to be working right now for users, so Microsoft is most likely just testing it for the time being before releasing it to everyone in a future update.

Already available on Windows 10 PCs

Seeing Xbox One game streaming arriving on Windows 10 Mobile devices is not in any way surprising, given the fact that such functionality is already available on PCs running Windows 10, so it was most likely just a matter of time until such a feature arrived. Microsoft wants to keep PCs and mobile devices in sync, and offering the same capabilities on both PCs and smartphones is a priority.

If Microsoft is indeed working on game streaming to Windows 10 Mobile devices, the feature should be ready for everyone in the Anniversary Update coming in July. We have contacted the company for more information on this and to find out if this tool is indeed being worked on, and we’ll update the article should an answer be offered.

The Anniversary Update is projected to see daylight in July on both PCs and smartphones, and it’ll bring plenty of new features, many of which are supposed to keep all devices running Windows 10 in sync.

Options, tools, and apps that are being offered on PCs will land on mobile devices with the same functionality, and this is one of the reasons it makes sense for game streaming to be provided on Windows 10 Mobile handsets too.
