Company working on refined version of the Start menu

The Start menu remains one of the Windows features that people use the most on their desktops, and Microsoft knows this very well, so it’s no surprise that the company is working on further polishing it both in the short and in the long term.

Right now, for example, a priority for Microsoft seems to be giving the Start menu a more modern feel inspired by Windows 10X, its new operating system that’s specifically aimed at dual-screen and foldable devices.

Windows 10X itself comes with a refreshed UI, icons, and visual effects that users really loved, and many requested the company to bring the same treatment to full Windows 10 as well.

And while the Windows 10X Start menu itself isn’t making the switch to full Windows 10, or at least not yet, some parts of it could soon go live for everyone on the desktop.

Hello, new Start menu!

A few screenshots that Microsoft shared on Facebook earlier this week provide us with a glimpse into how the new Start menu is going to look, and as you can easily tell from these images, it’s pretty clear that Windows 10X is the one that’s providing the design inspiration for the whole thing.

The live tiles themselves aren’t going anywhere despite all the rumors lately, and the new set of icons contribute to a more consistent approach from one end to another in the Start menu.

When used with the light theme, the Start menu overall looks a lot cleaner and more modern, and seems to fit the recipe that Microsoft is using for Windows 10 anyway.

When this is projected to go live for everyone in the operating system is still something that nobody knows, especially as the company is yet to officially announce this Start menu update.
