14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft hasn’t yet released a new Windows 10 build this week despite the fact that everyone expected it to land on Tuesday, but there’s no need to panic.
Dona Sarkar, the new boss of the Windows Insider program, has revealed on Twitter that work on new build continues these days, and while it does take more time to complete it, there are “really interesting things” coming late this week.
This means that the release could take place either on Thursday or on Friday, although it’s worth having in mind that Microsoft doesn’t usually release new builds on Fridays unless it’s something really special.
Without much information on what exactly is going to be interesting in this new build, it’s quite difficult to speculate on the features that Microsoft is working on, especially because previous reports indicated that the Windows 10 Anniversary Update was complete and feature-locked.
Final Windows 10 Anniversary Update build
The final build is likely to be labeled as 1607, which is actually a hint at the release date, with the first two numbers pointing to the year of launch and the other two to the month.
Windows 10 Anniversary Update could, therefore, land in July 2016, and that makes perfect sense because this is also the month when the operating system turns one and Microsoft ends the free upgrade promo for Windows 7 and 8.1 users.
The Anniversary Update will come with a plethora of updates, including support for extensions in Microsoft Edge browser, a redesigned Start menu that puts apps at the core of everything, improved Action Center, and many other tweaks across the entire operating system.
It will be released on both smartphones and PCs as part of Microsoft’s effort to bring all devices in sync, so many of the improvements that are made to a specific platform will also be available on the other.
