Software giant brags about the performance of SwiftKey

SwiftKey continues to be one of the top keyboards for both Android and iOS, but now that 2018 is over, Microsoft decided to take a look at the whole year and brag about the app with some in-house stats.

In a laudatory blog post rolled out this week, the SwiftKey team explains that their keyboard app is loading no less than 20 percent faster than the best competitor, while when it comes to the first load after a phone restart, it’s even twice as fast.

The data is based on internal testing conducted by Microsoft, and the company says that it put SwiftKey against a series of other popular keyboard apps like GBoard, TouchPal, and Baidu on phones such as Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Moto G4, and Alcatel 1T.

Furthermore, Microsoft says that its tests, which were repeated no less than 100 times, showed that SwiftKey reduced lag by over 50 percent, even on older phones where the likelihood of such an issue increases.

Thorough testing before each release

When compared to rivals, SwiftKey has the smallest app install size on a fresh install, which is quite a major achievement given that it comes with such a rich feature package. Plus, some devices are very constrained in terms of storage, so SwiftKey eating up less storage is definitely a good thing.

The SwiftKey team explains that each release is thoroughly tested before being published for production devices, and every code change to the keyboard is tested internally to make sure the speed and install size aren’t affected.

Furthermore, the engineering team monitors real performance after the release and patches are rolled out quickly to resolve any potential problem. SwiftKey also keeps an eye on its rivals and the team frequently performs benchmarks against other third-party keyboards to make sure that it’s still at the top of the chart in terms of performance and speed.
