Here’s what you get on the brand new Surface Pro

Microsoft has just unveiled the new Surface Pro with several hardware upgrades and new features, even though this is considered to be just a refresh of the existing model and not a completely new generation.

The Surface Pro, however, is a super-powerful device and the spec sheet confirms it, especially because Microsoft has once again decided to go for the best hardware that you can find on the market right now.

And it all starts with the CPU, which can go all the way up to Intel Core i7 (Kaby Lake) paired with 16GB RAM for the top-of-the-range configuration.

“Better than a MacBook”

Then, there’s the available storage space, which on the most expensive model comes in the form of an SSD that boasts 512GB. The device adopts a fan-less design on the m3 and i5 versions, and Microsoft bragged about this during the unveiling event today in Shanghai.

“With a powerful 7th generation Intel Core processors it can handle almost anything you throw at it, but even with all that power, you can be as inconspicuous as you want with Surface Pro, it’s the quietest Surface yet, with no fan on the Core™ m3 and the i5 devices. In fact, this is the first i5 ever with fan-less architecture. And at an unprecedented 18dB, even the core i7 can’t be heard,” Microsoft says.

The 12.3-inch PixelSense display has 50 percent more pixels than the 12-inch MacBook, the company said, and the comparison with Apple’s devices does not end here. A new Signature Pro Type Cover that also launched today with 1.3 mm of key travel is “easier, more, comfortable, more accurate, better sounding, and easier to do without looking than the MacBook and iPad Pro.”

Without a doubt, Microsoft is betting big on the new Surface Pro, with the device going up for pre-order as soon as today, while the first units will be shipped on June 15. You can check out the full spec sheet below.
