14 DAY TRIAL // The Surface Phone seems more of a figment of our imagination rather than a device that Microsoft is currently working on, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that hardcore Windows Phone fans can’t stop dreaming about a super-powerful device that can help save the platform.
This is the case of the Surface Note, a new concept that envisions the Surface Phone based on the existing patents and ideas that have been making the rounds lately, including a new hinge and foldable screens that could allow it to double as a tablet.
Published on Behance by Ryan Smalley, the Surface Note concept imagines how a typical smartphone can step beyond this form factor with new adaptable technologies, allowing it to convert to both a tablet and a notebook if needed.
The concept also borrows some ideas from devices currently on the market or expected to launch in the coming soon but which have already leaked, as it’s the case of the vertical dual-camera system projected to go live on the iPhone 8 this fall.
There’s also a new pen, which the concept designer calls Surface Note Pen, though we doubt that if such a project ever gets the green light, it can be called anything else than the Surface Pen given the effort Microsoft is putting into this device.
Windows 10 Mobile makeover coming at some point
Leaving aside concept ideas and turning to the actual chances to see such a device in production, it’s hard to believe that this exact device would ever get the green light, though there are rumors that Microsoft is already working on a reboot of its mobile platform, with a new phone also planned.
The Surface Phone has already been rumored to be a truly innovative device, with Microsoft itself looking to reinvent the smartphone with this model, and recent patents have shown that the company is most likely considering creating a new form factor based on the standard phone.
Company executives have suggested that if a new phone is ever created, it could be something that nobody can imagine at this point, with CEO Satya Nadella himself promising the ultimate mobile device.
