Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop got leaked a few minutes ago, ahead of its public unveiling scheduled to take place in a few hours during a press conference in New York.
Simply called Surface Laptop (and not Surface CloudBook as originally rumored), the new device will be powered by Microsoft’s new Windows 10 Cloud (or Windows 10 S, according to several rumors), which is the company’s operating system limited to apps in the Windows Store.
In addition to the Surface Laptop, Windows 10 Cloud is also projected to be introduced at the New York event today.
Technical specifications
As far as hardware is concerned, the Surface Laptop will feature a 13.5-inch PixelSense display and will be available in four different colors, namely platinum, burgundy, cobalt blue, and graphite gold.
The device will be super-portable and will have just 2.76 pounds (1.2 kg) and a thickness of 14.47mm at the back and 9.9mm at the front given the shape. Microsoft focused specifically on making the display look stunning, so it boasts 3.4 million pixels with a 3:2 aspect ratio.
While CPU, memory, and storage options are not yet known, the leaked photos show that the Surface Laptop will come with just one USB port, a mini DisplayPort and the Surface power connector that is being used for recharging. There’s no USB Type-C, which finally puts an end to rumors suggesting that Microsoft could give up on its signature Surface port for this more popular connector.
One of the more exquisite features of the Surface Laptop will be the keyboard, which is covered in Alcantara, a fabric that Microsoft also used on other Surface accessories like the Surface Pro 4 keyboard sold separately.
As for pricing and availability, they’re not yet available, though we expect the Surface Laptop to go up on pre-order later this month ahead of the start of sales in early June.
