Some 15,000 Surface Laptop 3 pre-orders said to be held back

If you pre-ordered the Surface Laptop 3 and expected to get it on day one, I’ve got some bad news for you.

Due to what is being described as miscommunication, some Surface Laptop 3 buyers might receive their devices later than originally anticipated, with Microsoft allegedly claiming some 15,000 units are currently held back.

A user on reddit says they called Microsoft after noticing the UPS tracking information set to “Label Created” when, in fact, the device was already supposed to be on its way to their door.

Just get the laptop from the Microsoft Store

“I called UPS and they confirmed to me that there was a miscommunication between UPS and Microsoft so there are over 15,000 Surface Laptop 3 preorders stuck in Limbo,” the reddit post reads.

“I contacted the Microsoft Store and they informed me that there is currently a huge queue of people on support asking about the same thing and that many Surface Laptop 3 devices have not yet shipped and that I will not be receiving my shipment today along with thousands of other people.”

Microsoft is apparently recommending customers who don’t want to wait until this blunder is fixed to actually go to the closest Microsoft Store and purchase a Surface Laptop 3 if any is in stock. Then, when UPS delivers the pre-order unit, just decline the delivery, and Microsoft should then issue a refund in up to 5 business days.

Obviously, this isn’t necessarily the most convenient way to resolve the delay, but Microsoft is also expected to fix its communication error with UPS super-fast and ship the pre-ordered laptops to customers as soon as possible. You can check your UPS tracking info to determine if your unit is affected by this problem or not and contact Microsoft to ask for more information if you think you might be hitting a delay.
