In addition to the Surface Go 2 and the Surface Book 3, Microsoft is also working on new Surface accessories, and by the looks of things, the new-generation Surface Headphones are just around the corner.

According to a recently-discovered Bluetooth SIG Certification listing, the Surface Headphones 2 could introduce some welcome upgrades that would improve the experience with the device even further.

For example, as compared to the first model, the Surface Headphones 2 could come with an improved battery life. In other words, the device could offer up to 20 hours per charge, a 2-hour improvement over the current generation.

Furthermore, it looks like Microsoft has been working on improving the wireless connectivity as well, so the new Surface Headphones 2 will ship with Bluetooth 5 versus the 4.2 on the current models.

Announcement at Build?

Qualcomm AptX support will also be included, and so will new controls that will make things like adjusting noise cancellation even more convenient. On the existing Surface Headphones, users can control the noise cancellation level by simply rotating the left dial.

Microsoft is also working on improving the gestures that are available on the Surface Headphones, and the new generation will make it a bit faster to launch the voice assistant. This is welcome news, there’s no doubt about it, especially as the Surface Headphones are working with both Android and iOS, which means the Google Assistant and Siri are also supported supported.

For the time being, there’s no information as to when Microsoft could launch the new Surface Headphones, but given the Build developer conference will take place in just a few weeks, there’s a chance the company will make several hardware announcements during the event. If this is true, the Build conference will witness both software and hardware news for the 2020 edition.
