14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is believed to be giving the finishing touches to at least two new Surface models as we speak, with their launch (if it’s not pushed back due to the new coronavirus) scheduled to take place this spring.
These two mysterious Surface models are likely the Surface Book 3 and the Surface Go 2, both of which would receive welcome hardware upgrades under the hood.
Recent information discovered by hardware leakster @_rogame provides us with a closer look at the upcoming Surface Go 2, which itself will undergo a welcome boost in terms of technical features.
If this information is accurate, then the Surface Go 2 is projected to come in two different versions.
Two Microsoft Surface Go 2 versions
The first will be powered by the existing Intel Core m3-8100Y processor running at 1.10 GHz. This chip would be paired with 8GB RAM and work with an Intel UHD 615 GPU unit. A 256GB SSD is likely one of the storage options to be offered on this configuration.
Then, Microsoft is also likely to offer an Intel Pentium version powered by a 4425Y processor clocked at 1.70 GHz. The same GPU chip is used on this model with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD.
It goes without saying the Surface Go 2 won’t be a beast, but it’s not even supposed to be one.
The Surface Go was developed from the very beginning to be Microsoft’s smallest and cheapest Surface model, so there’s a good chance the company would stick with the $399 starting price tag for the new generation.
Whether or not this strategy would work is something that remains to be seen, but for now, it’s pretty clear that the Surface Go is here to stay, and these hardware upgrades could make it an even more appealing purchase.
