Microsoft’s Surface Duo has just received its monthly update, as the Redmond-based software giant has started the rollout of the build 2021.419.70 in North America and 2021.419.72 in Europe.

Just as expected, this isn’t necessarily a massive software update given it’s a typical monthly release, but on the other hand, it’s a welcome pack of improvements nonetheless, especially because it also corrects a series of bugs that several users have previously come across.

First and foremost, it’s worth noting that this update comes with the May 2021 Android Security Bulletin improvements, so the Surface Duo is now on the latest security patch level released by Google.

This is pretty big for Surface Duo users, as keeping the device up-to-date and always shipping the latest security improvements keeps them on the safe side and helps block potential exploits aimed at their phones.

Microsoft says the update improves the device and UI stability, without offering any other specifics in this regard, while also adding that users are getting three important bug fixes in this release.

The bug fixes

For example, the new software update resolves a glitch that caused one screen of the Surface Duo to turn black whenever the device was being used in book mode. Of course, this isn’t necessarily the experience you’d expect when reading a magazine or a book, so now everything is returning to normal after the installation of this update.

Then, Microsoft says it has resolved another book mode problem, this time causing a message reading “double-tap to switch screens” on the Surface Duo. And last but not least, the Surface Duo update fixes “the scenario when using the TalkBack with 3-button navigation where the list of recent apps was showing on the left screen when invoked from the right screen,” according to the official changelog.
