Microsoft launched the Surface Duo with much fanfare earlier than expected back in September, and now the company is believed to be working on expanding the availability to more markets.

However, people familiar with the matter said the Surface Duo wouldn’t go live in international markets until the first quarter of 2021, as Microsoft is still waiting to see how the device performs in the U.S. and only then make a decision on this.

The Surface Duo debuted exclusively at AT&T, but beginning this week, Verizon is also selling the device. So right now, both AT&T and Verizon are official resellers of the Duo, only that the latter uses the full pricing that was announced at launch, whereas AT&T already released a discount.

So if you want to get the Surface Duo from Verizon, the 128GB version is available at $1,379, while the 256GB version can be yours for $1,479.

The Surface Duo

The Surface Duo is Microsoft’s very first Android device, and it comes with a dual-screen form factor that Microsoft hopes would pioneer a new category of devices.

However, many believe the Duo is an underpowered device, as it runs on a Snapdragon 855 processor that is paired with 6GB of RAM. The Duo was announced in the fall of 2019 at a time when the Snapdragon 855 was indeed the best mobile processor, only that debuting a year later pretty much made the device a previous-generation model.

Microsoft is believed to be working on the new Surface Duo already, and its debut could happen by this time next year. However, the software giant has remained completely tight-lipped on everything so far, so for now, the priority is expanding the availability of the first-generation model as much as possible, possibly to international markets too in early 2021.
