We’ve known for a while that a new Microsoft Surface Duo is on its way, and now that we’re getting closer to its expected release, we finally get a confirmation that a massive update is planned for the launcher as well.

Microsoft Launcher has been quite a hit lately, and it’s no wonder why. Not only that it powers the experience out of the box on the Surface Duo, but it’s also a great choice for anyone on Android and planning to benefit from deep integration with Microsoft services.

Naturally, the arrival of the Surface Duo has spawned the introduction of several new features on the launcher, and now Vishnu Nath, Partner Director of Mobile at Microsoft, confirms even bigger improvements are on their way, as per a recent report from WL.

Surface Duo coming later this year

The timing isn’t by any means surprising. Microsoft is projected to take the wraps off the Surface Duo in the fall of the year, possibly in October or November, so the work that’s currently being made on improving the launcher could actually prepare it for the introduction of this new dual-screen device.

Unsurprisingly, Vishnu Nath hasn’t shared any specifics, simply saying that there’s indeed something big planned on the launcher front, but “nothing to announce here on Twitter right now.”

So yes, while Microsoft is indeed planning an important update for the launcher, everything is still being tested internally right now, especially since this update is believed to be tied to the debut of the new Duo.

As for the new Surface Duo itself, it’s believed Microsoft would introduce a series of very important upgrades, including a triple-camera configuration and the adoption of the latest-gen processor to make sure the device is just as high-end as possible. If the timing info is right, the debut should take place by the end of the year.
