Other improvements likely included in the update as well

Microsoft is an Android device manufacturer now, so the company needs to ship security updates to the Surface Duo on a monthly basis.

And the March 2021 update is now live for the Surface Duo, with Microsoft shipping a new pack of improvements that is just a little over 82 MB in size and which is supposed to update the operating system to the latest security patch level, while also likely bringing other improvements too.

Surface Duo 2 already in the works

Microsoft is believed to be working on the Surface Duo 2 already, and the device is expected in late 2021, though for now, now confirmation in this regard has been offered.

In the meantime, the Redmond-based software giant is working around the clock on bringing the original Duo to more international markets, with the device launching in Canada, Germany, and a bunch of other countries earlier this year.

Microsoft keeps praising the Surface Duo’s productivity capabilities, explaining the device was built from the very beginning with this concept in mind.

“We’re breaking the mold again with an innovative 360° hinge and dual screens. Surface Duo brings together the power of Microsoft 365 experiences and the full ecosystem of Android mobile apps into one pocket-sized device, with two screens that users can take anywhere. Today, we’re announcing the arrival of Surface Duo in Canada complete with an updated user experience to usher in a new wave of productivity, functionality and creativity,” the company says.

The company has remained completely tight-lipped as to when Android 11 could land on the Surface Duo, though it shouldn’t take too long before this happens, especially because Google is already working on Android 12. Most likely, the Surface Duo 2 would launch with Android 12 out of the box if it indeed lands in the last months of this year.
