The latest firmware update causes several issues on devices

Microsoft rolled out a new firmware update for the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book on February 17 in order to repair the long-time sleep issues, but it appears that, while the company actually managed to address this problem, it also creates some new ones on both the tablet and the laptop.

Reports posted on Microsoft’s Community forums indicate that, after the update, some devices are experiencing screen flickering due to what seems to be bad drivers. This issue has been confirmed on both the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book, and for the moment, the only solution is to install an older version of the graphic drivers.

We’ve received some tips from readers telling that installing beta drivers could also help, but such a solution is only recommended for more experienced users because they aren’t supposed to be used as a daily driver.

It also breaks down Windows Hello

Furthermore, there are some complaints that the firmware update breaks down Windows Hello Camera, which obviously leads to several failures when trying to log into the desktop.

“After the latest firmware/software update, the Windows Hello IR camera is not turning on each time on the lock screen to enable facial recognition for log in.  It is working some of the time but not all of the time. It was working consistently before the updates,” one user confirms in a post.

“Recently, after the 2/17 update, when I start my computer or wake it up, Windows Hello cannot sign me in because it says the 'camera is waking up'... But the camera never wakes up and have to sign in manually with a PIN,” another one adds.

A Microsoft representative has pointed us to this link, explaining that following the steps mentioned here could help repair Windows Hello should the feature be broken after the update. But for the moment, the company hasn’t acknowledged the issues caused by this firmware version, so we’ve reached out to Microsoft for more information.
