The device could be announced later this year

Many expected Microsoft to take the wraps off the third-generation Surface Book at the company’s hardware event in October.

However, the Surface Book 3 is still missing in action, and now everyone believes the device is set to make its debut later this year, either in the spring or in the fall.

And a 3DMark listing appears to suggest that the Surface Book 3 is indeed in an advanced development stage, and by the looks of things, it’s in for a massive hardware upgrade.

The discovered benchmarks, whose authenticity cannot be verified, indicate that the Surface Book 3 could be powered by the Intel Core i7-1065G7. It looks like Microsoft is currently testing different GPUs depending on display size, so the 13.5-inch SB3 could come with a GTX 1650 Max-Q, while the 15-inch sibling might be equipped with the GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q.

Launch likely later this year

The 3DMark benchmarks do not specifically mention the Surface Book 3, but given this is the only Surface model that comes with a dedicated GPU, there’s a chance this is the device the listing is pointing to.

There’s of course a chance that the benchmarks actually concern a prototype of the Surface Book 3, although this is rather unlikely given the device is projected to launch later this year. At this point, it makes sense for the new Surface Book to already be in an advanced development stage ahead of the expected 2020 launch.

The design of the Surface Book won’t receive any major upgrades, so the controversial hinge is likely to continue to be offered. The device will also be available in two different sizes, 13.5-inch and 15-inch, just like the existing model.

Of course, more information should make the headlines as we get closer to the rumored release date.
