The device was projected to launch in holiday 2020

Microsoft announced the Surface Neo dual-screen device with much fanfare in late 2019, with the company claiming that it should launch at some point in the holiday season of this year.

Needless to say, this has been quite a highly-anticipated release, especially as the Surface Neo was supposed to serve as the pioneer of Windows 10X, a new operating system built specifically for dual-screen and foldable devices.

Earlier this year, however, people familiar with the matter suggested that Windows 10X might actually be delayed, with a launch projected to happen in the spring of 2021. Microsoft itself confirmed that Windows 10X would be released for single-screen devices first, and the rumor mill suggested that dual-screen devices would only get it in 2022.

No new release date

With the platform powering it being pushed back, a potential delay for the Surface Neo was something that made total sense, and now it looks like this is happening too.

As reported by MSPU, Microsoft has silently modified the Surface Neo landing page to remove the holiday 2020 launch reference. The new version of the site no longer indicates a release date, instead announcing the Surface Neo and that’s pretty much it.

The bad news is that while Microsoft no longer plans to launch the Surface Neo in the holiday season of this year, a new ETA isn’t available either. The company has remained completely tight-lipped on its plans for the Neo, so for now, a confirmation that it’s being delayed does not exist.

Hopefully, the Surface Neo wouldn’t have the same fate as the Surface Mini, a highly-anticipated tablet that was eventually killed off before it got the chance to ever see daylight. Officially, the Neo is still on track for a 2020 launch, so it remains to be seen when and if Microsoft confirms this delay.
