“Skype respects your privacy,” Microsoft says in new tweet

The update WhatsApp has been forced to implement on iOS has caused quite a controversy out there, as the Facebook-owned company had no other option than to admit it shares user data with the social network.

This has caused an en-masse migration from WhatsApp to other messaging platforms out there, and needless to say, Microsoft too wants to benefit from this disappointment some users expressed in the Facebook-owned service.

So what the company did was take to Twitter to highlight its focus on user privacy, emphasizing the personal data of its users isn’t sold to other parties.

“Skype respects your privacy. We are committed to keeping your personal data private and do not sell to 3rd parties,” Microsoft says in a tweet.

As Neowin noticed, the tweet is clearly aimed at users who want to give up on WhatsApp following the privacy update, with the company posting a link to its privacy policy statement where it shares full information on what data is collected and where it goes.

The migration from WhatsApp to alternative services

One of the platforms to benefit from the migration off WhatsApp is Signal, as the service revealed earlier this week that its servers have been having a hard time sending verification codes due to the high number of new accounts.

“Verification codes are currently delayed across several providers because so many new people are trying to join Signal right now (we can barely register our excitement). We are working with carriers to resolve this as quickly as possible. Hang in there,” Signal said in a tweet.

The company later confirmed it fixed all problems, explaining that everyone switching from WhatsApp to Signal should get nothing but a smooth experience.

“We continue to shatter traffic records and add capacity as more and more people come to terms with how much they dislike Facebook's new terms. If you weren't able to create a new group recently, please try again. New servers are ready to serve you,” it said.
