Microsoft employees release musical about the company

The most recent video published by Microsoft on YouTube isn’t a product ad, but an actual musical that no less than 150 interns and employees worked on during the whole summer.

Although I’m really not a big fan of musicals, the so-called “Microsoft the Musical” is worth watching, albeit this could just be the case because it’s only 7-minute long, or 11 minutes with all the credits.

The musical talks about the life at Microsoft, encouraging people across the world to follow their dreams, while also touching some more delicate subjects, like Windows Phone and Windows Vista.

The singers admit that “all around the world our products are well known, except for when we tried to make a phone,” going on to explain how Bill Gates founded Microsoft and how products like Microsoft Surface eventually came to be.

Empowering people to do more

According to Microsoft itself, the music video took eight weeks to create “from the first lyric to final publication,” and it’s dedicated to “every dreamer.”

This is a message that Microsoft has been reiterating on more than one occasion as part of the company’s mission of empowering people to do more and build products that in their turn help users do more.

“Microsoft the Musical was dreamt up and led by interns spending the summer of 2019 at Microsoft. This Tony Awards-style musical theater opening number is just one of many passion projects that came to life because we were encouraged to bring our whole selves to work. And that’s what we did: 150 interns and employees came in on mornings, weekends, and nights to create this outside of (and in addition to) their day jobs,” Microsoft explains.
