Microsoft has released a new cumulative update for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update whose rollout started on October 17.
Even though this is virtually the first Patch Tuesday rollout for the Fall Creators Update (also referred to as version 1709), KB4048955 is the second cumulative update that this new Windows 10 release gets, after an early patch that Microsoft pushed shortly after its launch.
Windows 10 cumulative update pushes version number to 16299.64 and installing seems to be going quite alright, despite concerns of any potentially failed installs. The update deployed correctly on a testing machine here at Softpedia, but it’s worth mentioning that we never experienced any issue with cumulative updates on this particular system.
As usual, this particular update is being shipped via Windows Update, but users can also download it manually from the Microsoft Download Center. What's important to know is that fully up-to-date systems don't have to download the full package, but can instead get the delta updates only, as they include only the changes introduced from the previous cumulative updates.

Most likely, this update brings security improvements for Windows 10 components like Microsoft Edge, the Windows kernel, Internet Explorer, and the Windows Search service.
We're not aware of any failed installs just yet and everyone should proceed to install this update as soon as possible, though IT admins might want to wait a little bit more until feedback is available on how deployment goes on various configurations.
