Microsoft has released an emergency update for the Android version of Microsoft, as the company was working together with Google to address a glitch preventing mobile phones from dialing 911.

In other words, Android devices with Microsoft Teams installed were no longer allowed to call 911 due to a weird glitch caused by the operating system and Microsoft’s app itself.

App update currently available

The problem was first reported on reddit, and Google quickly confirmed it, acknowledging that some devices were unable to dial 911 if Microsoft Teams was installed.

“Based on our investigation we have been able to reproduce the issue under a limited set of circumstances. We believe the issue is only present on a small number of devices with the Microsoft Teams app installed when the user is not logged in, and we are currently only aware of one user report related to the occurrence of this bug,” Google said.

“We determined that the issue was being caused by unintended interaction between the Microsoft Teams app and the underlying Android operating system. Because this issue impacts emergency calling, both Google and Microsoft are heavily prioritizing the issue, and we expect a Microsoft Teams app update to be rolled out soon – as always we suggest users keep an eye out for app updates to ensure they are running the latest version. We will also be providing an Android platform update to the Android ecosystem on January 4.”

The Redmond-based software giant says users should install the latest version of Microsoft Teams from the Google Play Store to make sure the 911 calls aren’t blocked. According to the information published on the Google Play store, the latest version is 1416/1.0.0.2021194504.

Needless to say, everybody is recommended to update the app as soon as possible, especially because of the critical nature of the glitch.
