We reported earlier today about the launch of Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL in India, but let's take a closer look at the pricing and the offers that come with the purchase of these smartphones.

First of all, these smartphones are usually available in other countries for around $550 (Lumia 95) and $650 (Lumia 950 XL). Also, Microsoft bundles the Lumia 950 XL with the Display Dock, which is available for free.

However, it looks like Microsoft has decided to make customers in India pay much more for the new Windows 10 smartphones, even though we all know this is an emerging market where people prefer affordable handsets.

Even though Microsoft offers the Display Dock HD-500 worth Rs 5,999 ($90) with both smartphones, the promotion is only available until December 11, which coincides with the date Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL will go on sale in India.

Additionally, Airtel 4G customers who purchase any of the two smartphones will also receive double data.

Neither promo offering announced by Microsoft justifies the high price

Regardless of these promotional offers, both Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL are clearly overpriced in India, which makes us believe that Microsoft doesn't expect these Windows 10 handsets to sell very well in this country, or maybe they don't want to.

Potential customers can pre-order both Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL beginning today via Amazon India while shipping will begin on December 11.

It's unclear whether or not Microsoft will sell these smartphones through its official store, but the Redmond-based company announced they would also be available at other retail stores like Croma, Reliance and Sangeetha.

So, if you have previously planned on getting any of these two high-end Windows 10 smartphones, make sure you can afford it because Microsoft has decided to make them more expensive than usual.
