Microsoft has released a major update for the iOS version of SwiftKey that introduces new animated themes and support for no less than 68 new languages.

This means that, at this point, SwiftKey supports a total of 106 languages, which is impressive to say the least for a keyboard app that needs to provide suggestions and predictions for users worldwide.

Additionally, the company has also introduced two new animated themes, namely Zig Zag and Cogs, each available in three colors, as well as a fresh new look for Nickel Light and Nickel Dark themes.

Currently at version 2.0, SwiftKey is one of the most advanced mobile keyboard apps, offering super-advanced text prediction, as well as rich support for themes and a bunch of other configuration options that help it adapt to the requirements of most users.

Focus on Android and iOS

SwiftKey, however, is not developed by Microsoft from scratch, as the company purchased the app from the original vendor in February 2016. At that point, the software giant guaranteed that support for SwiftKey would continue to be offered, with updates and improvements to be released at the same pace as before the acquisition.

And now it looks like Microsoft is indeed delivering on its promise, especially with today’s update, which brings so many new features on iPhones.

Shipping updates to Android and iOS apps is a priority for Microsoft according to its own mobile vision plan, as the firm wants all users, no matter what device they own, to be able to connect to its services without any limitation caused by the platform.

The more frustrating thing for Windows users is that SwiftKey itself is not available on Windows phones, and even though there were rumors pointing to a possible integration with the default keyboard in the operating system, there’s still no sign that such a thing is at least planned.

In the meantime, Windows phones are slowly losing Microsoft’s focus, and the keyboard might be the last problem from its users, as the future of the platform itself is uncertain at this point, with more rumors pointing to a planned demise in the coming months.
