The Surface Duo officially launches in more countries

Microsoft launched several new products earlier today, including the new Surface Laptop 4 and a bunch of other accessories, but the company has also briefly shared more information about the expanded availability of its first Android device in history.

The Surface Duo dual-screen device, which is Microsoft’s big bet in the Android hardware world, is going on sale in more countries, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, and Switzerland.

The Redmond-based software giant hasn’t shared too many specifics on the expanded availability, as it only confirmed it briefly in today’s announcement.

“Across the breadth of form-factors and price points available, from our largest Surface Hub, to our pocket-sized Surface Duo, we remain committed to delivering innovative devices that keep people productive. To this end, we’re pleased to share that Surface Duo is now available for business and education customers in additional European countries,” the company says.

So in theory, end users in the markets mentioned above wouldn’t be able to purchase the Surface Duo given it’s aimed at business and education customers.

New Surface Duo already on its way?

And while Microsoft is bringing the Surface Duo to more markets, it’s believed the company is already working on the second-generation model that’s supposed to address all the complaints received by the first iteration.

Little specifics are available at this point given we’re still in the early days of the project, but the Surface Duo 2 is believed to address the hardware shortcoming of the first model, thus coming with a latest-generation chip and upgraded internals.

Some sources said the Surface Duo 2 could land as soon as the fall of this year, though confirmation from more reliable tipsters is yet to be provided. If anything, Microsoft’s typical fall hardware event takes place in October or November, so we shouldn’t be too far from the potential debut of a second Duo.
