Version 2.51.0 comes with support for Apple’s new iPhone

The iPhone X is the first iPhone to make the switch from LCD to OLED, but the edge-to-edge design forced Apple to turn to a so-called notch at the top of the screen that requires developers to update their apps to look correctly on the new device.

Microsoft is one of the first companies doing this, and today the Outlook client received an update to add support for the iPhone X.

Now at version 2.51.0, Microsoft Outlook is one of the most popular email clients on the iPhone, and thanks to this update, users can install it on the iPhone X and take advantage of the new OLED display with a perfectly optimized UI. Without dedicated support for the iPhone X, apps place black bars at the top and the bottom of the UI in order to fit the screen.

As you can see in the photo gallery below, Outlook is indeed rendered correctly on the iPhone X, but it’s worth mentioning that this new update doesn’t bring anything new besides support for the most recent Apple device.

The Outlook app, which Microsoft launched after purchasing Accompli and rebranding their email client, is currently one of the best email clients on the iPhone, with more than 270,000 ratings in the App Store and an overall score of 4.5 stars out of a maximum of 5.

The app requires iOS 10 or later and works on any iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running this version of the operating system.

Updates for Microsoft apps supposed to add full support for the iPhone X should continue going live in the coming weeks and months, as the software giant has pledged to bring all of its services to users on Android and iOS with no compromise. This has obviously led to criticism from Windows phone fans, but on the other hand, it helped Microsoft customers on rival platforms access their favorite services easily.
