14 DAY TRIAL // After having tested Cortana on Android and iOS platforms for several months, Microsoft has finally released its personal digital assistant on both platforms.
If you own an Android or iOS device, don't expect all Cortana features available on Windows Phone to be enabled on your device as well.
On top of that, Microsoft announced that Cortana would also be available on Cyanogen OS-powered devices beginning later this month.
Here are some of the most important features that you will get with Cortana for Android and iOS. Reminders is a location-based feature that will pop up on the smartphone when you arrive at the location.
For example, you can set a reminder on your PC to pick up some flowers next time you're in town, and Cortana will remind you on your phone the next time you are at a certain location.
While in a meeting and not able to answer your phone, Cortana also redirects a missed call alert on your Windows 10 PC and send a text back letting them now that you will call them back later, without having to leave your PC.
Cortana can also track flights, packages and much more on both phone and PC, as well as get updates on the device you are currently using, so you don't have to miss anything.
Some features are available only on Windows Phone devices
But there are some Cortana features you will get on Windows Phone only, such as the ability to start Cortana hands-free by saying “Hey Cortana.” Also, you won't be able to toggle settings or opening apps.
For Cyanogen OS-powered smartphones, Microsoft announces that the custom integration includes the ability to ask Cortana to toggle network modes, power down the phone, and turn on Quiet Mode.
Now the bad news: Cortana is available beginning today in the US and China for iPhones on iOS 8 and newer, as well as Android 4.1.2 devices and up.
Also, the application will also be launched on the US on OnePlus One powered by Cyanogen OS with the 12.1.1 OTA update later this month.
