Microsoft’s getting ready to debut a new logo for its search engine Bing, as the company is trying to show its commitment to the search business following the impressive growth it has recorded in the last 12 months.

Bing has become not only a search engine but a stand-alone platform in itself and is now powering technologies such as Cortana and Siri. At the same time, it’s the default search engine in Windows 10, and also serving as the underlying technology for other web-based services, including AOL’s.

Windows 10 is powering more than 200 million devices across the world, which significantly helped adoption of the search engine as well.

The old logo was unveiled in September 2013

The new Bing logo comes approximately two and a half years after the last one released in September 2013, when Microsoft overhauled the search engine to come in line with the other revamped products in its lineup.

But Bing has grown so much lately that it finally became profitable in 2015, with third-party statistics showing that it’s now powering more than 20 percent of the searches in the United States.

"We expect Bing to continue to grow and are thrilled with our trajectory," Rik van der Kooi, Microsoft's corporate VP of advertiser and publisher solutions, is quoted as saying by The Age. "We are the only search engine that is experiencing steady, consistent growth and have increased our share for 26 consecutive quarters. And we're not slowing down."

Rik van der Kooi has also explained that Microsoft is very committed to the search business and wants to continue investments in this area, especially because Bing is finally bringing home the cash. Last quarter alone, the search business generated revenues of more than $1 billion (€900 million) for Microsoft, so it’s easy to see why the company wants to focus on improving the service.
