Windows 10 will debut in approximately one month and the new operating system will be offered as a free upgrade to those running Windows 7 or 8.1 on their PCs, if the upgrade is performed during the first 12 months after launch.

In a new email sent to employees this morning, Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella says that he’s very optimistic that “as many of current Windows 7 and 8.1 customers as possible” will move to the new operating system and calls for employees to support this transition by upgrading their communities.

“Starting on July 29 when Windows 10 becomes available, employees are invited to volunteer some time and upgrade their communities as part of the broader movement. More details will be available in the coming weeks — our hope is that not only our employees, but customers and partners as well, will get involved and be inspired. Together, we can make a big difference in our world,” he said.

“Windows 10 is proof that we’re customer obsessed”

Ever since he took over from Steve Ballmer at the helm of the company, Satya Nadella talked about Microsoft’s obsession for customers, explaining that every single product needs to be developed based on their suggestions and feedback.

Windows 10 is the very first product whose development was made with testers from all over the world, and this living proof that Microsoft is very keen on keeping its promise towards the new relationship with users, Nadella explains.

“A good example of our culture in action right now is the work around Windows. We have approached Windows 10 with a growth mindset and obsession for our customers. We have the opportunity to connect with 1.5 billion Windows customers in 190 countries around the globe. We aspire to move people from needing Windows to choosing Windows to loving Windows,” Nadella pointed out.

Windows 10 will definitely be a turning point for Microsoft, especially after it failed to meet expectations with Windows 8. The new operating system will land on the majority of Microsoft devices, including PCs, tablets, and smartphones, and will come with features that will allow for uninterrupted productivity at the desk or on the go.
