Surface Duo dual-screen device is now $200 cheaper

Microsoft launched the Surface Duo dual-screen device with much fanfare in September after previously starting the pre-order program in August.

And despite coming with previous-generation hardware, the Surface Duo was obviously available at a premium price, something that for many people out there was a deal-breaker.

The Redmond-based software giant has received the message and is now making the Surface Duo more affordable. Beginning today, the Duo comes with a $200 price cut for both versions that customers can order in the United States.

More specifically, the 128GB Surface Duo is now available from $1,199, while the 256GB version can be yours for $1,299.

Needless to say, the storage is the only difference between the two, so all the other specs remain the same. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor paired with 6GB RAM, and it comes with two 5.6-inch displays.

Microsoft Surface Duo

Surface Duo runs Android 10 out of the box, but Microsoft promised it would roll out the update to Android 11 rather sooner than later. Earlier this month, however, the Duo received a welcome firmware update with more bug fixes and improvements, but for now, there’s no sign of Android 11.

Worth knowing is that the Surface Duo remains exclusive to the United States, and people familiar with the matter said the company would reconsider its market availability plans in early 2021. At that point, the Surface Duo could also go on sale in other countries, though it goes without saying that it’ll continue to be offered at a premium price.

In the meantime, Microsoft is already working on the second-generation Duo, and more information on this device should be shared next year. It’s not yet confirmed, but its debut could happen as soon as the fall of 2021 if everything goes according to the plan.
