After rolling out another big update for Microsoft Launcher, which has recently reached 10 million downloads on Android, the company switched the focus to Edge browser, so a new version is now up for grabs as well.
This time, however, what we’re getting is a set of performance refinements and bug fixes, as Microsoft Edge is still in its early days on Android and thigs like these are critical.
Microsoft Edge for Android has thus reached version 1.0.0.1272, and it also evolves at a pretty fast pace, just like the rest of apps that the company released for the Android platform.
Edge browser growing bigger
Given this fast update pace, Edge is growing pretty fast in terms of number of downloads, and earlier this month it surpassed the 1 million hits milestone on the Google Play Store. According to Google’s official stats, Microsoft Edge for Android is now approaching 5 million downloads, and it’ll be interested to see how long it takes for the browser to reach this new personal best.
Edge runs pretty flawlessly on Android, though it’s no secret that it still has a long way to go in order to become a fully-featured alternative to Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. It’s indeed very responsive and fast, and offers features like password and bookmark synchronization, but it still lacks features that other more popular Android browsers have.
Obviously, given that Edge is still a new app on Android, it’ll grow bigger over time and Microsoft promises new features would be added based on user feedback. So if you do install the app, you better send your suggestions to the company to have the app improved substantially in the coming releases.
