OneDrive for Android receives new important update

Microsoft has released another update for the official OneDrive client on Android, giving the app a new look and feel that brings it in line with the iPhone version.

With this update, OneDrive for Android reached version 5.1, and the essential feature of the visual overhaul is the tab bar at the bottom of the screen that provides easy access to shared and recent files.

This is a feature that has been around for a while in the iOS client, so with this update Microsoft is bringing some consistency across the supported platforms.

The “Me” section has also been redesigned, again with ideas borrowed from the iPhone sibling. Basically, this menu provides access to information about the profile and the account, displaying the email address, available and total space, as well as options options like notifications and configuration settings.

You can also quickly access files that are available offline, as well as the recycle bin, should you look for files that you removed and want to restore.

Bye bye, Material Design

Not all users seem to be a fan of the iOS-inspired look, with some reviews posted in the Google Play Store calling for Microsoft to restore the Material Design that was available in previous versions.

“Go back to material design! Please don't use iOS look for Android app. It's confusing and disrupting user's ecosystem. Previous version was great but this a big step back,” one user said in his review.

It goes without saying that you can also download OneDrive APK for Android from Softpedia, while users who have already installed the app can find the update in the Google Play store.

Without a doubt, refinements to the OneDrive interface will continue to be implemented in future updates, and the goal is likely to keep Android and iOS versions in sync with improvements to be released to both platforms at the same time.
