Microsoft has announced that Outlook would be updated with a bunch of new capabilities on Android and iPhone, with the rollout to kick off in the coming months.

First and foremost, Microsoft wants Outlook to be fully prepared for the new iOS 14 update that Apple released earlier this month. So the app would come with a new Outlook calendar widget that will display appointments right on the home screen. An Outlook complication will go live on the Apple Watch too, and the app has already been updated to support becoming the default email client on iOS.

Microsoft is also bringing voice commands to Outlook for iPhone and Android, so users will be able to manage their appointments hands-free without the need for any kind of touch input.

Outlook can now be the default email app on iPhones

At the same time, Microsoft has also announced that Outlook will be updated with emoji reactions, so theoretically, you’ll be able to send a quick message with an emoji to an email that landed in your inbox with just a tap.

Microsoft will also expand the feature that is called Play My Emails, which allows the Outlook client to read the email messages that land in the inbox. This improvement was originally launched earlier this year in the United States, and now Microsoft says it’s bringing the same capabilities to more countries, including Canada, Australia, India, and the United Kingdom.

Needless to say, all of these make the Outlook email app even better on mobile devices, so users, therefore, have more reasons to stick with it on both Android and iPhone. Worth noting is that Outlook can now replace the Mail app on iPhones and become the default email client on iOS, and this feature will definitely come in handy thanks to all these improvements.
