14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has recently announced new firmware updates for Lumia 950 and 950 XL insiders who are enrolled in the production ring, with everyone else to get them in March.
And now the company has published the list of Lumia 950 and 950 XL devices that are getting the firmware update, explaining that it’s absolutely mandatory for insiders to switch to the production ring in order to see this new version.
How to get the new firmware
To switch to production ring, launch the Windows Insider app, click on “Get preview builds,” and then select “Production” when you are asked to choose the ring you want to be part of. Once the new firmware update is installed, you can switch back to the fast ring and continue getting new builds of Windows 10 Mobile just like before.
“Today we are launching firmware updates for a few Windows 10 Mobile devices. The Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL will receive this firmware revision [1078.38.16025] in select markets,” Microsoft says in the original announcement rolled out a few hours ago.
“To receive this update today, Insiders will need to switch to the Production ring and check for updates. Windows Insiders that don’t move to the Production ring will receive these updates in early March as we synchronize Insider ring and Current Branch firmware publishing.”
This new firmware update doesn’t bring too many new goodies, but it does come with stability fixes and improvements to GPS reliability and call audio quality.
Microsoft has also announced new firmware updates for Windows Phone devices in anticipation of the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade, but the company hasn’t yet provided the full list of handsets to get this new version. More information on these Windows Phone models is expected to surface soon enough, as the Windows 10 Mobile rollout is projected to kick off in just a few days.
