Redmond reveals why the 950 XL disappeared from some stores

Microsoft's new Lumia 950 XL running Windows 10 Mobile has disappeared from a number of stores, with some sources close to the matter pointing out that retailers found a number of issues on the device and decided to stop selling it completely.

The latest such report reveals that UK retailers Carphone Warehouse and Argos decided to take the same measure because of what were believed to be “hardware issues,” but in a statement released this morning, Microsoft says this is not the case.

In fact, Redmond says, the Lumia 950 XL is no longer available because it's selling very fast, and these stores registered the biggest demand.

“Demand for L950XL has been strong. CPW has listed L950XL as a pre-order purchase for more than a week as it has run out of stock and is awaiting more. L950XL is available to UK customers via other outlets – see http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/mobile/phone/lumia950-xl/offers/?opp=all We are working to re-supply CPW and keep all our other channel partners stocked,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.

Stores not yet confirming Microsoft's statement

While neither Carphone Warehouse nor Argos issued a statement to confirm what Microsoft is saying, they aren't the first stores pulling the Lumia 950 XL if this is indeed the case.

Amazon Germany has recently stopped selling the 950 XL too, and this time the company has even posted a notification on its website to say that a possible issue might be the cause.

“ITEM IS BEING INSPECTED. This item is available from various Marketplace resellers but not from Amazon.de. Customers have reported that the items in stock might be faulty or not according to their description on the website. We are working on a fix for this problem. This item might be available through a different reseller,” the message posted on its website read.

Truth is, the device does have some minor flaws here and there, including some build quality issues, and you can read all about them in our Lumia 950 XL review here.
