The latest Windows 11 preview build is a massive release, as it comes with plenty of fixes for the essential operating system features.

For example, the Start menu is finally getting a fix for the crash that occurred when users worked with pinned folders. In addition, the software giant says it has resolved a problem that caused the Start menu entirely to crash when it was simply launched, so overall, the experience should be substantially more polished.

These are the Start menu improvements that are part of this new build:

  • Start shouldn’t crash anymore when using CTRL + Shift + Right Arrow to move a pinned app into a folder that’s the last item in Start.
  • Fixed a crash some Insiders were experiencing when opening Start.
  • Narrator will now read the prompt that opens when trying to uninstall an app from Start correctly.

The Redmond-based software giant explains that the latest Windows 11 preview build for users in the Dev channel also includes important fixes for the taskbar.

For instance, the company claims it has resolved a critical bug in the preview Windows 11 preview builds that caused the explorer.exe to crash when the widgets were loaded. So right now, the experience overall should be more stable and reliable when interacting with the taskbar and the other integrated components.

“Fixed an underlying issue which could lead to pinned app icons getting stuck on the taskbar after uninstalling the app in recent flights. Fixed a high hitting explorer.exe crash in the last few flights related to loading Widgets,” Microsoft says when detailing the taskbar improvements.

For now, all these fixes are only available for testers in the Dev channel, but of course, it’s all just a matter of time until all insiders receive them in the upcoming testing builds as well.
