Microsoft has recently announced that Windows Phone Recovery Tool, the Windows application that allows us to flash any device running the company's mobile operating system, has received a new name as part of a bigger update that also includes several other improvements.

The app is now called Windows Device Recovery Tool, which could be a sign that some more important changes are about to happen in Microsoft's lineup.

Microsoft will be holding a Windows 10 device event on October 6 during which the company is expected to take the wraps off some new products, such as the Surface Pro 4, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, and the new-generation Band.

Renaming Windows Phone Recovery Tool to Windows Device Recovery Tool might be an indication that the application could soon serve multiple purposes and help us recover more than just phones. With the arrival of Band 2 and more new gadgets just around the corner, it makes much more sense to call the app “Windows Device Recovery Tool,” especially if it supports them all.

The official change log reveals that the app “will support recover for Windows phones 8, 8.1, and 10,” but more devices could be added to this list soon.

Other improvements included in the application

Version 3.0.1 of the new Windows Device Recovery Tool also includes some other important enhancements, among which a new help page to assist you as you try to fix a broken device, as well as accessibility improvements to Microsoft narrator and keyboard support.

Minor bug fixes and improvements are also part of this release, so make sure you update as soon as possible, especially if you're a Microsoft insider and something could go wrong at any time.

Obviously, the app is also listed on Softpedia, so you can download Windows Device Recovery Tool right away to get all these new features on your PC too.
