Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 preview build for users in the Dev channel as the company keeps working on additional polishing for its new operating system.

Windows 11 build 22509 is a pretty big release, and it includes substantial improvements, including a new way to browse the web in Microsoft Edge with Narrator.

Microsoft has been very focused on accessibility features in the latest Windows versions, and as it turns out, Windows 11 makes no exception.

Start menu refinements

Beginning with this new build, typing in edit fields gets substantial improvements, Microsoft promises.

“We have made it easier to type in edit fields, such as the address bar, because Narrator scan mode will now turn off faster. Specifically, if you press Ctrl + L to jump to the address bar, you should be able to start typing immediately because scan mode will turn off sooner,” the company says.

“This improvement will also help when filling in form fields such as typing your name and address in different edit boxes. In addition to making it easier to type into edit fields, we have also made it easier to delete in edit fields. Narrator will now read the character that the cursor position is at after a character has been deleted. In other words, if the cursor is on the “h” of “hello” and you press delete, Narrator will speak “e”.”

The Start menu is also getting additional polishing, with Windows 11 now allowing users to display more recommendations or more pins, while the notification system includes a new model that shows three high priority notifications stacked at the same time.

Needless to say, the improvements that are part of this build do not have a specific ETA for production devices, as Microsoft is just experimenting with them for a little while before they make their way to everybody out there.
