Microsoft has recently released a new cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update), but for the time being, only insiders can download it.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4476976 is thus available right now for users in the Release Preview ring, as devices enrolled in this channel are still on the October 2018 Update.

Microsoft decided to keep users in the Slow and Release Preview rings on version 1809 for a little longer, as the company can test new cumulative updates more thoroughly before making them available for everyone.

As for what’s changed in this cumulative update, no release notes have been provided, but further information should be provided by the end of the month. KB4476976 is a preview of a new cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1809 that’s expected to be released in late January.

Bug fixes and performance improvements

As usual, since this isn’t a Patch Tuesday release, KB4476976 is all about non-security improvements, so expect bug fixes and other refinements in the OS. The OS build number is increased to 17763.292 after installing this cumulative update.

Windows 10 version 1809 was originally published in early October but was pulled shortly after that due to a critical bug potentially causing the removal of user files stored in libraries. Microsoft then adopted a more cautious approach and re-released it first to insiders in the Slow and Release Preview rings in an attempt to discover and fix any potential issue before they impact production devices.

The same approach is being used for cumulative updates as well, so if everything goes well, expect this new cumulative update to become available for everyone in the coming weeks.

Insiders can download it like any regular update from Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
