14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just released KB4340917, a new cumulative update that’s aimed at systems running Windows 10 April 2018 Update.
KB4340917 bumps OS build number to 17134.191 and it brings several non-security improvements, most of them fixes for bugs discovered in the operating system since the previous release.
For example, this cumulative update fixes an issue hitting the RemoteApp session that could cause a black screen when maximizing apps on a secondary monitor, as well as OpenType font printing issue from Win32 applications.
This new April 2018 Update cumulative update also fixes glitches hitting wireless PEAP environments, with Microsoft explaining the following:
“Addresses an issue where using an invalid password in a wireless PEAP environment that has SSO enabled submits two authentication requests with the invalid password. The excess authentication request may cause premature account lockouts in environments with low account lockout thresholds. To enable the changes, add the new registry key DisableAuthRetry (Dword) on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP\26 using regedit, and set it to 1.”
One known issue

There’s also a known issue that’s inherited from the July 16 cumulative updates. Microsoft has already confirmed that there’s a problem impacting .NET Framework applications, causing them to crash. There’s no fix just yet and Microsoft says that it’s working on a fix, with no ETA available at this point.
“After you install any of the July 2018 .NET Framework Security Updates, a COM component fails to load because of “access denied,” “class not registered,” or “internal failure occurred for unknown reasons” errors. The most common failure signature is the following: Exception type: System.UnauthorizedAccessException Message: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)),” Microsoft explains.
There are no reports of failed installs just yet, and cumulative update KB4340917 installed correctly on our systems running April 2018 Update.
