Microsoft is now accelerating development of Windows 10 Redstone 5, the next major update for its desktop operating system, and today the company brings the Skip Ahead and Fast ring of its Windows Insider program back in sync with a fresh build.

Windows 10 build 17661 is now available for download with a plethora of improvements, and without a doubt, the star of the show is what Microsoft calls “a modern snipping experience.”

With build 17661, Microsoft improves the way you can take screenshots in Windows 10, and starting with this update, Screen Sketch becomes an app that’s displayed in the Alt + Tab app switching menu.

“Originally introduced as part of the Windows Ink Workspace, this comes with a variety of benefits, including that it can now be updated via the Microsoft Store, it will now show up in the list when you press Alt + tab, you can set the window size to be your preference if you like multitasking, and it even supports multiple windows (and tabs, thanks to Sets!),” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, says.

Sets coming to more users

Microsoft is also enabling Win + Shift + S hotkey to take screenshots and a notification displayed in the lower right corner lets you annotate the photo or share it with contacts.

Additional settings for capturing what’s happening on the screen are available in the Settings app, and pressing the Print Screen key is also enabled to launch the revamped utility.

This build also activates Sets for more users (but not for all) and brings acrylic in Task View. Acrylic is part of Fluent Design, Microsoft’s new design overhaul for Windows 10 that’s slowly expanding across the entire OS.

Windows Defender Security Center is being renamed to Windows Security with this update, and Focus Assist gets improvements to turn on automatically when playing any full-screen game.

There are several other changes and refinements, as well as lots of known issues in this new build, and you can check them out in the box after the jump.
