14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just rolled out a new Redstone 2 build for users enrolled in the fast ring, and this time, the company is updating both PCs and mobile devices registered for the Insider program.
Windows 10 build 14915 brings improvements to the Delivery Optimization feature that was introduced in late 2015, with the November Update. Starting today, this system makes it possible to download new Insider Preview builds, OS updates, and app updates from other PCs on the local network or from other computers on the Internet that have this feature enabled.
Delivery Optimization is enabled by default, so users who install this build must have this in mind when downloading OS updates. To disable it, go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Advanced options and click Choose how updates are delivered.
No known bugs for mobile
Just like all the other builds, this new one comes with plenty of other improvements and fixes on both PCs and mobile devices, but also with known issues that everyone should have in mind when installing them. You can check them out in the box below, but note that more bugs could actually exist since it’s a preview build.
What’s important to know, however, is that mobile devices do not come with any known bugs, and Microsoft expects it to run quite smoothly.
“We don’t have any known issues to list right now for Mobile with this build but that doesn’t mean there are not any issues. If anything pops up based on feedback, we’ll add to this list,” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, said in an announcement today.
For PC users, it’s worth noting that the Settings app could crash when accessing personalization settings, and a black screen could show up when signing out and logging in with another user.
This build is only available for users in the fast ring, and it’ll certainly take a while until the other rings are updated too. The final version of Redstone 2 should be released to users in spring 2017.
