New build with no known issues pushed to the Fast ring

Microsoft has released Windows 10 build 17760 to insiders in the Fast ring, and this is quite a big step towards the RTM build that everyone is waiting for.

Build 17760 is a preview of the upcoming October 2018 Update, also known as Redstone 5 or version 1809, and it’s likely one of the last releases before Microsoft signs off the RTM.

Microsoft is projected to finalize the development of Windows 10 October 2018 Update sometime in mid-September, and insiders are likely to get the final build later this month.

While it’s too early to tell whether build 17760 is an RTM candidate or not, it’s definitely a step towards this stage of development, and the lack of known issues shows that stability is reaching a production ring level.

Microsoft Edge improvements

The change log includes only a few lines, and one of them concerns Microsoft Edge. As Microsoft explains:

“We fixed an issue resulting in rendering issues in certain types of PDFs in Microsoft Edge. We fixed an issue that could cause a crash when using swipe to navigate back in Microsoft Edge. We fixed an issue resulting in Microsoft Edge crashing after pressing F12 on certain webpages if certain extensions were enabled.”

By the looks of things, refining the experience with Microsoft Edge has become a priority now, and this can only be a good thing given that the browser has more recently been the subject of a huge controversy.

Microsoft displayed warnings when users installed third-party browsers on preview builds of Windows 10 in an attempt to keep them on Edge, but this tweak has been received with heavy criticism from the community.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update will begin rolling out to users next month, and as it was the case of the previous feature updates, it will ship in stages as more compatibility issues are resolved.
