14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 Mobile devices still running build 10586 and enrolled in the Release Preview ring have received a new update that most likely brings performance improvements and stability fixes.
Dubbed build 10586.338, the new cumulative update is only aimed at phones that aren't yet updated to Redstone builds. Microsoft isn't supporting all Windows Phone models for Windows 10 Mobile, but these devices can still be upgraded to the new OS version through the insider program.
And yet, the 10586 build is the last they're going to get, so updates like this one are clearly quite important for them.
Microsoft hasn't provided a change log to tell what exactly is new in this update, but just like all the other updates that are part of the 10586 branch, improvements and stability fixes are very likely to be offered.
New Windows 10 Mobile build also expected this week
Microsoft is expected to roll out a new Windows 10 Mobile for insiders sometime this week, and most likely, the company will push the "red button" either today or tomorrow.
Initially, the new build was planned to go live on Tuesday, but it appears that this schedule has since changed.
Windows 10 Mobile will also receive the Anniversary Update in the summer, so these preview builds give users the chance to try out new features before they are released to everyone else.
The Anniversary Update is most likely scheduled to land in July, as Microsoft documents indicated that the final RTM build could be labeled as 1607. Judging from Microsoft's build numbering system, 1607 is supposed to arrive in the seventh month of 2016, so July is very likely to witness the introduction of the new update on both PCs and smartphones.
In the meantime, work on the Anniversary Update advances nicely, and if everything goes according to plan, builds that are close to the final one should surface in the coming weeks. Microsoft is already working on fixing bugs and improving performance, as the update is currently feature-locked, so no new functionality is being developed.
