It’s Patch Tuesday, so it’s time for new cumulative updates for Windows 10 devices, including here those running both version 10240 and 10586.

Just as it happens with every cumulative update published by Microsoft, these new releases come with improvements and bug fixes, so you won’t find any new features in here. This is actually the purpose of cumulative updates in the first place, so if you install these ones, you should notice things like better stability and fixed bugs, but no new functionality.

Hopefully, no other issues will be experienced with these cumulative updates, as was the case with previous versions, but we’ll keep an eye out on reports and will let you know if there’s anything worth mentioning. Let’s see what’s new in these updates.

KB3172985 (OS Build 10586.494)

Cumulative update KB3172985 is specifically aimed at systems running Windows 10 version 10586, and as you can see, it pushes it to build .494.

The update includes several bug fixes, but also improved reliability for some built-in Windows apps, such as IE11, Windows Media Player, Miracast, and the Windows Kernel.

For example, it fixes an issue causing users to see a black screen instead of the lock screen, but also a bug that addresses issues in Microsoft Silverlight-based apps. There are security apps for a plethora of apps in Windows 10, including IE11, Microsoft Edge, the Print Spooler, and Kernel Mode Drivers.

KB3163912 (OS Build 10240.17024)

For users still running the original RTM version of Windows 10, Microsoft has released cumulative update KB3163912, which includes improved reliability for IE11, Windows Explorer, and Windows Update.

There are several security updates too, but also bug fixes, including a patch that addresses apps becoming unresponsive when using an Input Method Editor.

You can check out the full changelog of the two updates in the comment box below, and you are recommended to install both of them as soon as possible.
