Microsoft has released a new cumulative update for Windows insiders running builds as part of the Fast ring.

Cumulative update KB4497093 can be downloaded on Windows 10 build 18362.53, and it is specifically supported to fix a previous issue that blocked insiders from installing new builds.

“This Cumulative Update includes the fix for Windows Insiders in the Fast ring who were unable to update to the latest 20H1 build from Build 18362.53,” Microsoft explains.

The company adds that the very same cumulative update will soon be shipped to users in the Slow and Release Preview rings as well, and despite no ETA being offered, I expect the update to go live for these two channels early next week.

The Release Preview ring is currently being used by Microsoft to determine the reliability of the Windows 10 May 2019 Update. This particular release is projected to launch in late May, and Microsoft wants feedback from users in the Release Preview ring to iron out the latest bugs before the rollout happens.

Additional fixes

KB4497093 also includes additional fixes, including several aimed at Japanese users, as per the official changelog.

“We have made general improvements for users in Japan or use the OS in Japanese including fixes for the Japanese IME and fixes for date and time issues,” Microsoft notes.

The same update fixes an issue causing UWP VPN plugin apps to fail to work correctly, as some were unable to send packets through a VPN tunnel on an IPv6 only network.

And last but not least, there’s a bug fix for error 0x80242016 encountered when trying to install updates on Windows 10 build 18362.

There is no known issue in this cumulative update, so it remains to be seen if any errors are experienced by insiders who install it on their Windows 10 devices.
