14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just released a new cumulative update for Windows 10 insiders enrolled in the Slow ring.
Cumulative update KB4496796 increases the OS build number to 18356.21 and comes with just one improvement, as it’s supposed to resolve an older issue blocking users from upgrading devices.
Last week, Microsoft decided to pull the latest Windows 10 19H1 preview build for the Slow ring after discovering an issue blocking the update for Slow ring insiders.
RTM candidate
Today’s cumulative update is supposed to resolve this behavior, but the company warns that it could take a while until the new build is then offered to everyone. Microsoft explains:
“We have released Build 18356.21 (KB4496796) to Windows Insiders in the Slow ring who are currently on Build 18356.16. This update will get Insiders who are on Build 18356.16 back into a good state so they can update to Build 18362. We are allowing a few days for this update to roll out before offering Build 18362 – so that means Insiders will still not see Build 18362 offered after updating to Build 18356.21.”
Windows 10 build 18362 is believed to be an RTM candidate, meaning this could be the final build that Microsoft compiles ahead of the public launch this month.
As per Microsoft’s typical release schedule, the RTM build was supposed to be finalized in March, and now it looks like the company needs a little bit more time to get it ready. However, once all Slow ring insiders receive it, everything becomes just a matter of time until the go-ahead for the rollout to production devices is given.
An ETA as to when this is projected to happen isn’t yet available, but the update should land later this month. It’s very likely to be called April 2019 Update and be offered as version 1903.
